Brian Eno "An Ending (Ascent)" from "Apollo..."

4 Abr 2008 23:00 Nordik @ Zeeman DJ set Faro

BETA EVERS - Transient (Nation)

BETA EVERS - Transient (Nation) Comentários: Traxx's Nation takes another step - this time into Wave territory (a huge passion of Mr Traxx). Killer. Almost sounding like it could have dropped on Celluloid back in the 80's...TIP!The “transient” EP is Beta Evers’ 4th EP Production. For this project Beta was driven by thoughts about the short time/lifespan of many things. “Transient” is about life, death, being in interstates.Side A:“prisoner of mind”… is a melancholic track situated between New Wave and modern electronic songwriting. When your body is a prisoner of your mind, your visions tell you how different things could be. Whenyour mind would be free of neurotic fears, but you cannot find the way out. Musically this trackis a beautiful poem of illustrious harmony.Side B1:“paralyzed”… is a track about fear and panic.Musically inspired by acid and early 80s sequencer electronics. Imagine a scenario, where you wake upat an unknown place without any light, you want to get up and want to find out where you are, but youcannot move. You are paralyzed and stuck in this nightmare situation. Maybe it is no dream and you areon the other side, among the unliving? You know, that the whole scenario is unknown and scary ...Side B2:“foreign control”… is a track musically driven by 80s New Wave.Someone who is searching for his identity, who has lost parts of memory and tries now to get the piecestogether. Visiting places where he meant to have been before his trauma has happened. This person meets another person, who gives him some memories back, but there remains a big blackgap, that cannot be filled up anymore, otherwise he finds more persons that can help him to tell somethingabout his previous life. Mark Bradford

Mark Bradford was born in Los Angeles, California in 1961. He received a BFA (1995) and MFA (1997) from the California Institute of the Arts in Valencia. Bradford transforms materials scavenged from the street into wall-sized collages and installations that respond to the impromptu networks—underground economies, migrant communities, or popular appropriation of abandoned public space—that emerge within a city. Drawing from the diverse cultural and geographic makeup of his southern Californian community, Bradford’s work is as informed by his personal background as a third- generation merchant there as it is by the tradition of abstract painting developed worldwide in the 20th Century. Bradford’s videos and map-like, multilayered paper collages refer not only to the organization of streets and buildings in downtown Los Angeles, but also to images of crowds, ranging from civil rights demonstrations of the 1960s to contemporary protests concerning immigration issues. Mark Bradford has received many awards, including the Bucksbaum Award (2006); the Louis Comfort Tiffany Foundation Award (2003); and the Joan Mitchell Foundation Award (2002). He has been included in major exhibitions at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (2006); Whitney Museum of American Art, New York (2003); REDCAT, Los Angeles (2004); and Studio Museum in Harlem, New York (2001). He has participated in the XXVII São Paulo Bienal (2006); the Whitney Biennial (2006); and inSite: Art Practices in the Public Domain, San Diego, California and Tijuana, Mexico (2005). Bradford lives and works in Los Angeles. in art 21 [+info]

Matthew Barney

Matthew Barney was born in San Francisco in 1967; at age six, he moved to Idaho with his family. After his parents divorced, Barney continued to live with his father in Idaho, playing football on his high school team, and visiting his mother in New York City, where he was introduced to art and museums. This intermingling of sports and art informs his work as a sculptor and filmmaker. After graduating from Yale in 1991, Barney entered the art world to almost instant controversy and success. He is best known as the producer and creator of the “CREMASTER” films, a series of five visually extravagant works created out of sequence (“CREMASTER 4” began the cycle, followed by “CREMASTER 1,” etc.). The films generally feature Barney in myriad roles, including characters as diverse as a satyr, a magician, a ram, Harry Houdini, and even the infamous murderer Gary Gilmore. The title of the films refers to the muscle that raises and lowers the male reproductive system according to temperature, external stimulation, or fear. The films themselves are a grand mixture of history, autobiography, and mythology, an intensely private universe in which symbols and images are densely layered and interconnected. The resulting cosmology is both beautiful and complex. His final film in the series, “CREMASTER 3,” begins beneath New York City’s Chrysler Building and includes scenes at the Saratoga race track, where apparently dead costumed horses race through a dream sequence, and at the Guggenheim Museum, where artist Richard Serra throws hot Vaseline down the Museum’s famous spiral ramp. The film is scheduled for release in 2002. Matthew Barney won the prestigious Europa 2000 prize at the 45th Venice Biennale in 1996. He was also the first recipient of the Guggenheim Museum’s Hugo Boss Award. in art21

STATIC - Re: Talking About Memories

STATIC - Re: Talking About Memories (City Centre Offices) Comentários: As Berlin's monopolising grip on emotionally flecked electronica becomes ever stronger, our best advice is just to enjoy the ride! One of the central spokes to Germany's aural necromancy, Hanno Leichtmann (aka Static) has collaborated with To Rocco Rot, Tarwater and Lali Puna, whilst lending a production hand (and ear) to the likes of Pole and Jan Jelinek. A natural evolution from his last LP 'Flavour Has No Name', 're: talking about memories' sees Leichtmann again seamlessly massage a bloodhound nose for melody into swathes of electronically rendered acumen; with the resultant sound both esoteric and eminently listenable. Opening with the Ronald Lippok collaboration 'Return of She', Leichtmann delivers a creaking cask of clicks and cuts which are consummately shepherded away from any accusation of clinical detachment by all manner of harps, sun-blushed soundscapes and Lippok's delicious vocal. Elsewhere, 'A Song for You' is prime-time Mum soused clean of any pastoral whimsy, 'Point of Hope' brings acoustic guitars, Christof Kurzmann and lolloping beats together in perfect union, whilst the slow-motion elegance of Lars Rudolph on 'The Moon Had A Crack' allows Leichtmann to indulge in some after-hours piano and soothing analogue washes. Static has never sounded so good. in boomkat [Para Ouvir/Samples]

GAINSBOURG, Serge - Les Annees Psychedeliques 1966-1971

GAINSBOURG, Serge - Les Annees Psychedeliques 1966-1971 (Le Smoke Disque Portugal) Comentários: This collection stands as the definitive survey of Mssr. Gainsbourg's psychedelic years. Culling its music from rare vinyl (Gainsbourg's ultra-rare 7" B-side from the Mister Freedom OST) and master tapes (the superb and never commercially released "La Horse" and the breakbeat classic "Requiem Pour Un Con") and utilizing tasteful restoration and remastering, Le Smoke Disque's latest anthology promises to be the first time that many of these songs will be heard by the record-buying public-at least in this form. And with bonus beats to boot. There's a reason why Le Smoke Disque is a subsidiary of the acclaimed Peak Of Western Civilization Records, the company that brought us such classic compilations as Incidental Music from The French New Wave Masters and Le Planet Fantastique - Alain Goraguer's Very Best. Contains arrangements by the visionaries MICHEL COLOMBIER and JEAN CLAUDE VANNIER, Highly Recomended! in sound [Para Ouvir/Samples]

DELTA 5 - Mind Your Own Business

Os Delta 5 eram uma banda de Leeds composta por Alan Riggs, Bethan Peter, Julz Sale, Kelvin Knight, Ros Allen. Mind Your Own Business foi um single editado em 1979 no formato vinil 7 polegadas pela Rough Trade britânica, este clássico do pós punk foi revisitado recentemente na compilação "Disco Not Disco: Post Punk Electro & Leftfield Disco Classics 1974-1986", e em 1999 as míticas Chicks On Speed deram-lhe uma cara lavada com o seu remake electroclash, que figurou um ano mais tarde no seu album Will Save Us All! .

HEADMAN - Catch Me

HEADMAN - Catch Me (Gomma Germany) Comentários: Headman rode the crest of the punk funk wave back in the early ‘00s with releases like So Then! which married cowbells, live drums, electronic instruments and rock and roll sensibilities. Since then Robi Insinna has released two albums and Catch Me is his third. It's being touted as his most mature work yet, which is ironic because these twelve songs are crippled by the lack of any real progression from the same sound. If anything it's worse than what came before and crushingly depressing in its refusal to leave the middle of the road, to kick you in the face and make you want to turn it up. Even a little bit. Catch me is average, OK, fine. Whatever.Ploughing through the album you'll find yourself thinking that the tracks sound like somebody else, only not as good. 'Song 8' is a bit like LFO's 'Freak' with all the alluring freakery ironed out and 'Brave' resembles a duller, more spaced out Chemical Brothers. Headman also has developed a knack for the kind of electro/rock and roll/pop drivel that populates Radio 1 during the daytime. A third of the album is made up of these tracks, and each could pass for the other. If you're after this kind of sound there's far better and more interesting artists out there like Friendly Fires, Spektrum and LCD Soundsystem or you could look back further to Lizzy Mercier Descloux or ESG. LCD make an interesting counterpoint to Headman having been around, to paraphrase James Murphy, back at the beginning when this style became trendy. LCD's last album showed a group honing their sound, tightening up and reaching new emotional heights, praise which right now seems a long way off for Headman. in ra [Para Ouvir/Samples]

PERREY, Jean Jacques/LUKE VIBERT - Moog Acid (LoEB) Comentários: Luke Vibert hooks up with the legendary Moog operator Jean Jacques Perrey for a far out trip on 'Moog Acid'. Harnessing Perrey's moog manipulations to a fierce acid backing in two variations at 138bpm and 133bpm Vibert comes up trumps with some party guaranteed dancefloor winners. Jackson (and his computer band) skews Perrey's moog movements into far wilder territory on his squelching electro remix while Plastician contributes one of the finest tracks in his repetoire with a taut grime flexout crying out for some shouty vocal action. in boomkat [Para Ouvir/Samples]

CLARO INTELECTO - Metanarrative

CLARO INTELECTO - Metanarrative (Modern Love) Comentários: Manchester-based Mark Stewart, aka Claro Intelecto, releases his long awaited second album, Metanarrative, on March 14th through Modern Love. "Metanarrative” follows his debut album “Neurofibro” released back in 2004. Over the course of 2006 he had a series of stripped back, drum heavy 12” singles out on Modern Love titled “Warehouse Sessions Volume 1 - 4 ”. Since last year he worked on the new album which now includes 8 genre-crossing tracks ranging from techno, minimalism and pop to sweet melodies and rich songwriting. “Metanarrative” was mastered over 8 hours at Berlin‘s legendary dubplates & mastering, and Mark Stewart states on the final result: “The final selection has much more of an emphasis on melody than the last few twelves. The narrative arc of the album was very important to me. The musical theme represents a life’s cycle, taking in varying influences and ideas that hopefully come across over the 40 minutes of the album.” in berlinista [Para Ouvir/Samples]

CONTRA COMMUNEM OPINIONEM - Tired Feet EP (Mathematics US) Comentários: Excellent new four tracker on Mathematics, I have no idea who Contra Communem Opinionem are but they have done a bloody good job. Kicking off the EP with title track "Tired Feet" a slow down techno jam with enough grooviness to work most floors, big old sub bass, lots of spacey synth parts and a techno sensibility in the beats. Next up is "Dreamin" which has oodles of piano, massive sharp handclaps, nifty hi-hats and a real old school rave vibe, especially when the bass drops back after the little breakdown. Flip over for "Science In The Morning" which is making me think of that run of Planet E 12's in the late 90's, plenty of techno sounds, but retaining enough funk for the floor. Last up is "Silence In The Morning" a huge sounding ambient intro which gives way to a sluggish 4/4 house groove perfect for the more technowise beatdown fan. in piccadilly [Para Ouvir/Samples]

COUNTER COUTURE/DUSTMITE - Thoughts (Wireburner US) Comentários: Ultra nice 7 track ep from Detroit. Very limited edition of 200 copies worldwide done by 2 different artist who seem to be inspired by the old references from Detroit (Dopplereffekt, Drexciya) and the early Dutch West Coast sound (Electronome, I-f, Cosmic Force, Legowelt). TETINE - I Go To The Doctor! (CSS rmx)

TETINE - I Go To The Doctor! (Souljazz) Comentários: Killer Punk-Funk/New Wave 12” featuring the Sao Paulo based group Tetine along with a wicked remix from CSS.Tetine are Bruno Verner and Eliete Mejorado. This is their second release on Soul Jazz Records and is a taster for their forthcoming album Let Your X’s Be Y’s, a wild mix-up of Punk-Funk/New Wave/Post- Punk/Baile-Bass. Integral to the same vibrant Sao Paulo music scene in Brazil that has now produced both CSS and Bonde de Role, Tetine’s music is similarly a mixture of raw punky energy and attitude mixed with bass-heavy dance music. Tetine are in-fact the forerunners of this scene having now released 8 albums in Brazil since they formed in Sao Paulo in 1995."Tetine was my first inspiration in terms of intellect, presence and their amazing performances. It was right there in front of me but it made such a strong impression I never forgot that was what real music is about: freedom and purity and, of course, in many different ways, FUN! I've never seen something like that coming from Brazil, or actually, anywhere!" Lovefoxx - CSSConstantly exploring the boundaries between music, art, video, performance their infamous live events range from rock gigs to gallery installations."Tetine are Feminists, un-followers and inventors of their own scene; an uncut diamond. If Art is really dead, then Tetine belong to a "nameless" genre – the makers of something wild, something alive." Chicks On SpeedAside from their own music, Tetine have also been instrumental in bringing the Brazilian underground scene to the general public, having compiled both Funk Carioca (the first ever album of Baile Funk outside of Brazil) and Sexual Life of the Savages (an essential primer to early-80s Post-Punk from Sao Paulo, released on Soul Jazz Records). in souljazz [Para Ouvir/Samples]

TAKE - The Dirty Decibels of Thomas Two Thousand

TAKE - The Dirty Decibels of Thomas Two Thousand (Eat Concrete Holland) Comentários: TAKE aka Thomas Wilson is a composer who continues to push the boundaries of instrumental Hip Hop music into new directions. He has long been at the center of an ever growing scene of talented musicians, producers and dj's in the Los Angeles area. As an active member of the Dublab family and co-founder of the legendary beat showcase night "Sketchbook", Take has been fortunate enough to share the stage with such artists as Prefuse 73, Mos Def, Daedelus, Caural, Nobody, Ammon Contact, Scienz of Life, Flying Lotus, Ta'raach, Edit and more. In the last several years, he has composed and produced multiple 12" EP's and remixes for labels such as ButterMilk, Poobah Records, Astro Lab, Eat Concrete and unleashed his much-admired debut full length player called "Earthtones & Concrete" last year. Eat Concrete Records is very proud to announce that "The Dirty Decibels..." is preceding a full length album by Take coming out later this year (2008). "Take brings to the stage his alter ego Thomas 2000. "The Dirty Decibels of Thomas Two Thousand" is a fat eight tracked 12" EP featuring refined, detailed artwork by Kutmah (Dublab) and an unbelievable remix by Dimlite (Sonar Kolletiv). Take gets heavier on the beats, vocals and sampling and strikes a less serious tone with his Thomas 2000 alter ego. "The Dirty Decibels of Thomas Two Thousand" is a laid back and fun record. He has one of the liveliest sounds in new leftfield hiphop and experimental beats. Whether it's like on his album "Earthtones & Concrete", cohesive and composed, or in the more lighthearted manner of this Thomas 2000, his music always seems to come together in the most natural way... Take featured on "Twin Earth Atlantic", Eat Concrete's second full length released earlier this year and ever since there's been talk of further collaboration. We're happy to announce that "The Dirty Decibels..." is preceding a full length by Take coming out later this year (2008). " press release. "This is serious quality material, dope!. Burlesque and the Art of the Teese

Burlesque and the Art of the Teese/Fetish and the Art of the Teese by Dita Von Teese Burlesque and the Art of the Teese "I advocate glamour. Every day. Every minute." I'm a good dancer and a nice girl, but I'm a great showgirl. I sell, in a word, magic. Burlesque is a world of illusion and dreams and of course, the striptease. Whether I am bathing in my martini glass, riding my sparkling carousel horse, or emerging from my giant gold powder compact, I live out my most glamorous fantasies by bringing nostalgic imagery to life. Let me show you my world of gorgeous pin-ups, tantalizing stripteases, and femmes fatales. I'll give you a glimpse into my life, but a lady never reveals all. "Fetish and the Art of the Teese" You may have come for the fetish. Or you may just be sneaking a peek at this mysterious and peculiar other side. No matter what you've come for, there is something for you to indulge in. My world of fetish may not be the one that you would expect. As a burlesque performer, I entice my audience, bringing their minds closer and closer to sex and then -- as good temptress must -- snatching it away. As a fetish star, I apply the same techniques. . . . An opera-length kid leather glove, a strict wasp waist, an impossibly high patent leather heel, a severely painted red lip. . . . Come with me into my world of decadent fetishism. nota do editor [Comprar]

MAELSTROM - Edits EP #1 (Solar Disco) Comentários: After ruffling a few feathers with his Metro Area edit late last year, Glasgow-based Maelstrom returns, scissors in hand, with a three track EP of sure fire peak-time disco edits designed for the dancefloor. Despite being a relative newcomer to the scene, fans of his output are gathering fast, and the list of admirers already includes James Murphy (LCD Soundsystem), Prins Thomas, Lindstrom, Todd Terje, Rune Lindbaek, Pete Herbert & Optimo (the list goes on and on). RABBIT SEASON - Slow Math (Rabbit) Comentários: Toronto's Rabbit Season is the trio of Andrew Roy, Jordan Wood and Thom Paulozza, who occupy a similar part of the musical spectrum as fellow not-disco referencers Glass Candy and the DFA, whilst venturing intrepidly into the screwball pop experimentation of the Paw Tracks camp. The band's anything-goes approach calls upon playful electronic beats and cheap synths to fashion deftly economical pop songs, all capped off with a refreshingly human-sounding approach to the vocoder. The end results exude no small amount of charm, maintaining a clearheaded pop understanding, whilst rejigging familiar formats.
